It’s Time for The BIG READ!

By scottcampbell | March 2, 2010

BW-BLKBGRD-127x300What is The Big Read, you ask?  The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, established in 2006 to encourage reading throughout communities across the country.  Just how “big” is it?  Well, in March, thousands of people all over the Granite State will be reading the same book: To Kill a Mockingbird, perhaps the “Great American Novel.”

Check out http://bigreadnh.org/ to learn more about To Kill a Mockingbird and to get details on all the great events planned for next month.  Here in Newington, we’ll kick it off tonight, Tuesday night, March 2.  The first 20 people to walk in, comment our Facebook page, call, or e-mail us on Tuesday will receive a free copy of the book.  Then we’ll meet on the 16th (and the 30th?) to talk about it.

And in a crazy coincidence (or as some people believe, there are no coincidences), AMC will be showing the movie tonight!  Check here for time and channel info: http://movies.amctv.com/movie/50165/To-Kill-a-Mockingbird/overview The film will also be shown on the 18th at the Paul Arts Center at UNH, as well as in Greenland and throughout the state all month.

As you can see, it’s going to be BIG, so join in!

The power is back on and the wi-fi is up and running, so come on down and see us!

Also don’t forget that today is Game Day. We have a number of winter-sports related games for the PS2, plus classics like Scrabble, Chess, and card games for those who would rather play unplugged.

And did we mention Munchkins and coffee?! To quote the Blues Brothers, “this place has got everything!”

We hope to see you here!

By scottcampbell | February 26, 2010

Apparently, Nimble Hill Road is closed (except to locals) and the library has no power. So obviously, we’re closed today. Hopefully you have power where you are! For more info on power outages and road closures, try SeacoastOnline.com or WMUR.com.
